Financial Education Helps Build Lasting Relationships With Employees and Customers

Credit union service organizations learn about how
financial education initiatives can improve employee
productivity and customer loyalty.

May 5, 2003 - Madison, Wis. -- The leading role financial education initiatives play in improving customer loyalty and employee productivity will be placed front and center at this weeks' National Association of Credit Union Service Organizations (NACUSO) Annual Conference at Caesar's Palace, an event that focuses on the changing landscape and new opportunities in the Credit Union Service Organizations (CUSO) industry.

Joe Saari, President and CEO of Madison, Wisconsin-based Precision Information, LLC, a leading provider of interactive financial education materials and tools, will speak about the value financial education initiatives provide CUSOs and the credit unions they serve.

Saari believes that the current financial environment provides a unique opportunity for CUSOs and credit unions to strengthen relationships with their employees and members through financial education initiatives.

"In a market where all financial service firms are working to build, and in some cases regain trust, CUSOs and credit unions are uniquely positioned to stand out by emphasizing financial education initiatives because education has always had a role in their missions" said Saari.

Saari's speech, entitled, "An Educated Customer is a Better Customer," will focus on the demand that exists for financial education, its proven benefits to both its recipients and providers, as well as how to deliver an effective financial education program. Saari will also open up part of each session for questions and answers on financial education initiatives.

"I'm very excited to have the opportunity to speak on this topic at the NACUSO Conference, not only because I will be able to spread the word about financial education, but also because I will be able to learn firsthand how the industry thought leaders view the state of financial education in the CUSO industry -what they think is going well and how they think it can be improved."

An appointed member of the Governor of Wisconsin's Task Force on Financial Education in 2002, the highly-energetic Saari will speak in two sessions on the last day of the four-day conference. He will stress that financial education can provide the best of both worlds; it improves the well-being of the employees and customers who receive it, while also increasing the profitability of the CUSOs and credit unions who offer it to them.

"Financial education initiatives provide an ideal nexus between doing the right thing and improving business-not just for CUSOs and credit unions, but for all financial service firms who provide financial education. For many employees, properly delivered financial education initiatives lead to increased financial wellness, which can lower stress, improve productivity, and increase retention," explained Saari. "Customers who receive financial education from their financial service provider will often associate their improved financial wellness with that provider. As a result, financial service firms can actually lower complaints, increase loyalty and grow their businesses through financial education initiatives targeted at their customers."

The 2003 National Association of Credit Union Service Organizations (NACUSO) Annual Conference will take place at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada, from May 6 through May 9, 2003.
