IT IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP RECORDS

Keeping accurate records of your securities trading can mean the difference between successful investing and a tax nightmare.  Luckily, brokerages and investment firms make it easy for you by sending confirmation notices and periodic statements.  These notices are your evidence of what shares you bought and sold.  Review each statement carefully to make sure no errors are present.  You should now be able to identify the basic elements of both confirmation notices and periodic statements.

You can find more information on securities transactions in the other tutorials in this section.
